Two pieces of good news from the nursery this fall.
New: Torrey Pine
The Torrey Pine (Pinus torreyana) is the rarest pine in North America and is critically endangered in the wild. It grows on windswept coastal bluffs and still manages to produce some of the largest, most flavorful pine nuts in the world: dense, mildly sweet, and fragrant with resin. It makes a striking specimen tree or windbreak for mild, maritime gardens along the Pacific coast.
Seedlings are in limited supply, so please order only if you're in the right climate zone and can give this tree the care it needs. Plugs are $22.
Black Huckleberry is back
Black Huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum) is the iconic mountain huckleberry of the West, prized for its sweet-tart, aromatic, dark-purple berries and brilliant red-purple fall color. Pre-orders are open now, starting at $15.95 for a 4" plug. Plants become available November 16, 2026, and ship within 3 weeks of that date, in the order orders were received.
