Climate Ready
From Washington’s 2021 heat dome to longer dry seasons in California, the garden we plant today has to handle the climate of the next 30 years. Our Climate Ready collection gathers the native edibles in our catalog that need little or no summer water once established: oaks, pine nuts, serviceberry, golden currant, buffaloberry, balsamroot and more. Every plant lists its hardiness zones, so you can pick what will thrive where you live.
Fire Smart
Wildfire season now reaches well beyond California. Our Fire Smart collection brings together native edibles that extension services across the West recognize as fire-resistant: moist leaves, low resin, and low or open growth. We note where each plant fits around your home, from the first 5 feet out to 100 feet. No plant is fireproof, but the right plants in the right places, kept watered and tidy, make a real difference.
