A potent anti-viral medicine.
We recently got down to making tinctures from this powerful plant (and it will be available for sale in approximately 6-7 weeks). But why? Lomatiums are used as a panacea for a wide variety of ailments, from respiratory infections to skin complaints to digestion issues to arthritis. With the respiratory effects of the COVID-19 virus, those seeking plant medicines from the Earth can turn to Lomatium, and the tincture form works well for many people to deliver this medicine to their bodies.
The volatile oils in the roots, which give the spicy flavor, are what is behind much of the medicinal action Lomatiums have on the respiratory system. These volative oils are antiviral and antibiotic, as well as antibacterial and antifungal. The Fernleaf Biscuitroot in particular stops the growth of invading viruses, bacterial and funguses, without harming good bacteria. This makes Lomatium a powerful ally to have in your garden or your medicine cabinet for when colds, flus, and respiratory illnesses come around.
HOW WE DID IT
We used a 2:1 ratio of Lomatium Dissectum root to alcohol
- 1000ml 66% Alcohol (we mixed ¾ organic alcohol & ¼ grain alcohol to get this)
- 500g of chopped Lomatium Dissectum root
- 5 weeks of steeping time
We spent about 2 hours outdoors cleaning, chopping and mixing 4 gallons of puree that will steep for 6 weeks. This will in total yield about 100-120 1oz prepared and bottled tinctures.
